One of the most common challenges and dilemmas for management is to find dedicated and loyal employees who really care about their performance and who have the right attitude and drive to produce great results. The general feeling is that good people are rare to find and the perception is that the people problems that occur in organizations have to do with the people themselves.
Perhaps that is true; however, let’s look at how we can change that perception and argue that a big part of the problem can in fact be addressed and corrected by a clear accountability system that can truly get to the root cause from which people issues and challenges come.
How?… Well, there are many ways to create accountability and improved results through others; but not too many people use a process behind this approach. Instead they use ways that are mostly around an instinctive management approach we call “management-by-emotion” - one that ends up fluctuating emotions according to the stress and pressure of the workload, to misaligned perceptions and expectations, and to the personalities of the people involved. This approach, as can be imagined, is filled with potential emotional outbursts waiting to happen or, worse yet, can create “silent strikes” by the people which can both have a dramatic impact on productivity and performance.
